a self-help book for societies
Works great as an e-book, especially on color e-readers and tablets (the book has 300+ color drawings). The best ebook experience we’ve seen is Apple Books > iPad > sepia > vertical scroll.
Comes along with a website with the book’s most important drawings, labeled (I tell you throughout the book which drawing to go to look at). Also, I read the book myself, it was arduous.
wait but why
You can read the book right on Wait But Why. It looks and functions the best of all here, but no dark mode.
About the book
Hi, I’m Tim. I write the blog Wait But Why, where I write about all kinds of things. But in the middle of 2016, I started thinking about a new topic: why my society sucked. As technology soared ahead, it seemed like we were going backwards in wisdom. Tribalism was flaring up everywhere, mass shaming campaigns were roaring back into fashion, politicians were increasingly clown-like, public discourse had become a battle of one-dimensional narratives. I decided to write about it, which plunged me into a rabbit hole like no other. Six years later, I emerged with this book. The book introduces a new framework for thinking about our complex political environment. With dozens of new terms and concepts and 303 drawings, it’s a toolbox for understanding our societies, our group dynamics, and our own minds. Here’s everything on all the pages:
See how much shit is in there? That took a really long time and I’m happy it’s over. Anyway, stop procrastinating by reading all the way down on this page and go read the book, and then we can discuss.
